Whale Watching
3 to 3.5 hour whale watching tour
With Sidney's moderate climate, protected harbor, calm seas, and beautiful gulf islands right off shore it's no wonder why Sidney is one of the best places in the world to depart for a whale watching adventure.
With over 95% whale sightings, and every adventure different from the last, we get many return visits from our happy guests. Our local wild life is always changing and surprising us with its beauty and simplicity. We have been involved with nature viewing for over 10 years and still love our jobs, which I think speaks for itself.
Some of the things we will see on our tours:
Transient and Resident Orca Killer Whales, Grey Whales, Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, and the occasional Fin whales. We also have dolphins, porpoise, sea lions, seals, river otters, a huge variety of sea birds, and some very exotic land mammals that have been imported to some of the gulf islands. You could come on 10 tours and not have time enough to see all of what the Salish Sea has to offer.

When choosing a Whale Watching Tour...
Location is everything!
Sidney, near Victoria, BC, Canada, is an exceptional departure point to see marine wildlife. Sidney is the gateway to Vancouver Island, American San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands. Thousands of islands lay just offshore and this magnificent scenery has been made into Canada's newest National Park. Sea life abounds in this unique temperate ecosystem both above and below the water.
Spring, summer and fall; each season brings its own best wildlife viewing opportunities.
Spring (March and April)
- best for viewing a multitude of waterfowl, bald eagles, baby animals on the islands, Stellar and California Sea Lions. Porpoise are usually attention starved after being alone all winter. This is also the most common time to see Gray Whales that may be in our area. Mid April is the start to the Orca watching season.
Summer (mid April to mid Oct.)
- J Pod (Orca family) become more predictable in their behavior about mid April and more frequently swim the Islands off shore more than in the winter months. Sea Lion continue to be seen until about the beginning of May when they depart for cooler waters. Seals abound year round with babies being born most often from mid July through mid August Porpoise enthrall guests with their antics at the bow of the boats through the fall. K and L Pods (Orca families) return to the Islands each year near the end of May or beginning of June, this then allows guests to view up to 90+ Orca whales . Minke whales may also be seen through the summer months.
Fall (Oct. into Nov.)
Good sightings of all the animals continue through Oct. and into Nov. This is also the time of year we most likely view Humpback whales. Orcas, known as the Southern Residents follow their most common food source salmon that return to spawn in the local rivers each year. While the salmon return from the oceans to spawn so the Orca sighting opportunities increase. Choose Sidney for your adventure!
